Anxiety is one of the most common mental health concerns that people might face. And it can come in many, many different forms. Yet, people often have dozens of anxiety questions that go unanswered. As an experienced anxiety therapist, I have encountered many clients who arrive to begin counseling for anxiety with a mix of uncertainty and curiosity about their anxiety. What they tend to have in common is a deep desire for relief from their worry, fear and often crippling anxiety symptoms. They come into my Houston counseling office with questions - some straightforward, others more complex - about what anxiety really is, how it affects them, and what can be done about it.
How do I pick a major?
Choosing a college major seems like a pretty major decision in life and can be a source of anxiety for both future (or current) college students and their loved ones. The best piece of advice I can give you is to relax! Picking a college major does not carry the weight and finality of Harry Potter’s Sorting Hat. It’s not a decision you have to stick with very long if you feel you’ve chosen poorly and it probably doesn’t have the lifelong implications that many people believe it does. Having said that here are some tips that can help ease your mind and make the decision an enjoyable one:
Why You NEED A Life List & How To Make One
Learn to feel more grounded and less anxious in just a few minutes
Grounding is a coping skill that helps you stay more in the present moment. It is really helpful for decreasing anxiety, panic, PTSD, and feelings of disconnection, or flashbacks.
When people are highly anxious or feel numbed out, spaced out, or like you are in a dream state, becoming mindful through a grounding technique will help. It can help you be more in the here and now so you feel safe, comforted and calm. Give this technique a try and let us know how you like it.

It's not easy, but there is hope and joy if we let ourselves be a part of this process of healing. Why is waiting so hard? A hopeful lament.
Why is waiting so hard? In part, because we are made aware that we are not in complete control of our own lives. You have to let go of some things before you will ever feel comfortable with waiting. You have to let go of some control of the future and learn to live more in the here and now. This is a discipline that you practice moment by moment. It's not easy, but it will free you up from so much anxiety. Our Houston Anxiety therapists can help you decrease your stress and get your mind back on track. Call us today at 713-565-0922.
Loneliness and the Coronavirus - Ways to Stay Connected While Social Distancing
We have been social distancing for a couple of weeks and even for the introverts, it can start to feel lonely. We are social creatures. All of us. We create meaning in groups. We have identity in groups. We are tethered and grounded in our interactions with people. Right now, those things have been ripped away from us.
