Teen Counseling In Houston, TX
Are you concerned about your teen?
Are they acting out, struggling with school, having erratic emotions, having an eating disorder, or with relationships?
Counseling for teens gives them a place to get those things out and a way to learn skills they can take with them for the rest of their lives.
Are you wondering if your teen’s behavior is normal teen angst, or something more serious?
With all of the ups and downs that come with being a teenager, it can be hard for parents to know what is normal teen stuff that they will grow out of, or what is more serious and requires professional help. That is what we are here for. We will do a thorough assessment of your child and can help you both make decisions about what might help. Once we have assessed your child, we will talk with you and them and develop goals and a treatment plan to empower your child to make the changes they need. For some teens, just having a neutral place to talk and the process can help relieve a lot of their tension

You may be ready to get counseling for your teen in tx, but have a few concerns
Do I get to be involved in my teen’s counseling?
I believe parents are the best ally any kid can have. I communicate with parents and bring them into the process of counseling. In this way, I consider you a partner in the process of helping your teen. We are all there to help your teen problem solve, feel heard, and learn to have more autonomy over their lives. We try to work collaboratively with parents to help teens. We will often meet with parents at the beginning or end of sessions when it’s appropriate to keep you posted.
My teen is already overwhelmed, how will they have time for counseling?
Therapy for teens will actually help relieve the burden your child is feeling. They will learn to express themselves, manage feelings and learn to feel more in control of their lives. These are wonderful skills that they will take with them throughout adolescence and into adulthood. There is not much worse than feeling out of control and not knowing how to solve one’s problems. Once someone learns how to do this, they are much less likely to feel overwhelmed.
My teen doesn’t want to go to counseling.
Starting anything new can be scary. Let your child know that counseling is just about talking. It is an outlet for them to help them solve their problems and feel happier. I have found that most teens really like counseling once they have gotten past their initial fear of coming in. I would let them know that getting counseling is non-negotiable, but that they have a say so in which counselor they get to see. Getting to be a part of that process makes them feel more invested. Finding someone who is a good fit for them will make a big difference. We have a YouTube video on how to find the counselor that is right for you here free to check out our about page to learn about all of the different counselors that work here and see which one is right for your child.
How long does my teen need to stay in teen counseling?
There is no way to know exactly how long you will be in counseling. Once we meet and do an assessment it will be clear how often and for how long you may need to come in for counseling. Your outcomes depend in large part on how motivated you are to change and use the skills you learn in counseling. The ultimate goal of therapy is to help clients make changes and use skills that they can take with them for the rest of their lives. Once they reach their particular goals, therapy can end. The nice thing that once a relationship is established with your therapist, even if you meet your goals and finish therapy, you always have a place to come return in the future if new issues come up.
